“It’s the highlight of his summer.”
“I searched for a camp for my son that incorporated lessons from the Bible, but also gave him the ‘camp experience,’” says Jane Makhomenka, mother of Elliott (6), who attends Beachmont’s Day Camp. “Beachmont’s devotions are what keep us coming back year after year. The devotions, swim lessons and snowballs,” she says with a laugh.
“I love that they actually teach him how to be safe in the water,” says Jane who moved to Harford County from Baltimore County two years ago with her husband and three children. When Jane asked some local moms where they sent their children to summer camp, their answers were all the same - Beachmont. “I watched the promo video on the website, read about the awesome activities, and I was sold,” she says.
The first day of camp was stressful for her and Elliot, she recalls. “We were both nervous, but he walked right in and had a great first day; then a great week; and then a great two weeks,” she says. “Then, he was devastated when it was over.”
Elliot would describe his day in detail as they drove home from camp. “Still on a high from the day, he would tell me about the songs they sang, the games they played, and by the time he got home he was pooped and ready for bed, which of course is what every parent wants,” she chuckles.
“My son loves the counselors and talks about them like they’re his best friends,” Jane says. “They’re always happy and upbeat even if they’re hot, tired, and sweaty.”
Jane says safety was a top priority for her when choosing a camp, and Beachmont did not disappoint. “The pick-up process was seamless. Every parent or guardian is required to present their ID and must be listed on the approved pick-up list. It makes me feel totally comfortable that no one else can take home my child.”
“I encourage other parents to consider Beachmont as the summer camp of choice for their family,” Jane says. “We do other activities throughout the summer, but nothing gets him more excited than when I say it’s time for Beachmont! It’s truly the highlight of his summer.”
